Miles for Marines

"Miles for Marines" marked their 100th day of fundraising at the 2007 San Clemente Memorial Day celebration at Park Semper Fi, San Clemente. Jim Birdsell, Veteran Lifeguard Rescue Specialist,the heart and soul of Miles for Marines, spoke at the celebration and thanked all the people that ran miles, skateboarded, swam, cycled, kayaked and sold lemonade to help "Miles for Marines" raise over $50,000 to benefit the IMSFF. Jim was assisted by a compassionate group of friends and local businesses including Doreen Ingino, Fine Signs & Design; Antoine & Veronica Price, Antoine's Café; G. Wayne Eggleton; Councilman City of San Clemente, Katrina Powers Design, David George and 2nd Lt. Trevor Gibson. Jim was presented with several donations during the ceremony -- $1000 from Dream Maker Kitchens of San Clemente, $4,000 from the South Coast Aquatic Team and a spontaneous $500 donation from a generous lady whose brother gave his life during WWII.

Motorcycle Raffle/Mississippi Chapter of Leathernecks Motorcycle Club

This club, made up of Marines past & present and FMF Corpsmen have built a custom motorcycle and are raffling tickets for this event. The winning ticket will be drawn on Memorial Day.

Morena Bay Park Salutes Miles for Marines
San Diego, CA

The Morena Bay Park Business Association joined Miles for Marines to celebrate Memorial Day with a street party for a thankful tribute to our wounded troops. Delicious food was provided by local eateries: Baci's, Bay Park Fish Co, DaNino's, Siesels Marke, and OffShore Tavern & Grill, all offering $5 sidewalk menus with proceeds going to the IMSFF. Music, dancers, and face painting, a raffle and silent auction were part of the festivities. Great gifts were donated by the local eateries as well as Ole Flamenco, HornBlower Cruises, Tiffany Downtown, Bumblebee Tuna, Clairmont High School, Fire Etc, Squid Co., Yasuda Nursery, Baja Silk Screen, Seaforth Sportfishing, Berquist Wine Marketing, Point Loma Sportfishing, Quiksilver, Boat Depot and Dry tube. The highlight of the evening was the Pirates of the Caribbean shown on a 35ft screen at the end of the street. Everyone had a great time at Morena & Ashton streets as they raised funds and awareness for our wounded.

3rd Annual Brotherhood of Marine Corps Rider Poker Run

Another successful Poker Run was accomplished by the Brotherhood of Marine Corps Riders as they raised close to $10k for our wounded. This years Motorcycle ride to benefit the IMSFF started at 9:00am at Temecula Valley Choppers. There were special guests, live entertainment, tons of prizes and a heck of a good time. "From the Sands of Iwo Jima to the Sands of Iraq", Benefit Gala

A wonderful evening was had by all as Sergeant Major Gene Overstreet, USMC (Ret), 12th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps and President of the Non Commissioned Officers Association of the United States of America, led a volunteer effort to hold a benefit for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. The event began with a reception followed by dinner and both a silent and live auction. Attendees enjoyed an engaging and momentous evening with not only brave Marines who have fought for our country and sustained combat injuries, but with other noteworthy guests as well. Marines of Casta Del Sol

The Marines of Casta Del Sol have again had a very successful meeting and fundraiser for the IMSFF. At the Casta Del Sol Poolside Picnic these former and retired Marines have raised $1495 this month. Their featured speaker was Gordon Dillow, noted local columnist. This great group also raised $1,120 in February at their Pizza Party, bringing their donated total thus far to $2615. We extend our heartfelt thanks for all the support from the Marines of Casta Del Sol and a special thank you to Paul Rubenstein for all his efforts.

San Diego Enforcers 2007 Season

The San Diego Enforcers are a charitable organization comprised of law enforcement officers and firefighters throughout San Diego County. Their group represents a cross section of officers united to promote a positive self-image to the public by raising funds for charity through spirited competition. This past season the San Diego Enforcers chose the IMSFF to benefit from the proceeds of gate tickets. It was a great "comeback" season for the Enforcers. Everyone had a great time at the games a wonderful relationship was forged, and proceeds helped to assist many injured and their families. Leatherneck 5K Race & Fun Run

A small group of concerned Marines, all Operation Iraqi Freedom verterans hosted this communtity event that brought many together to raise funds and awareness for our wounded. The course took runners along the scenic Patuxent River & Chesapeake Bay coastline aboard the U.S. Naval Aviation Test Facility. This was an outstanding event and raised $10,000. Thanks to all that ran and donated their time, funds and heart to this successful day!

Cooper River Bridge Run and Walk

Team Semper Fi (TSF) made its official debut as they participated in the 10K Cooper River Bridge Run and Walk. Seven Marines and one Sailor, all recovering from injuries sustained in Iraq participated in this event. Joining Team Semper Fi, were students with the NROTC unit at the Citadel. These Marines and Cadets ran with boots and 50-lb packs to show their tremendous support and dedication as they raised awareness and over $90K in donations for the IMSFF. Heartfelt thanks go out to the Second Presbyterian Church for their wonderful pre-Cooper River Bridge Run Healthy Pasta Dinner and Fundraiser. 100% of proceeds will go to IMSFF. Great food, lovely music, relaxing massages and wonderful company were enjoyed by all. Our specail thanks to all who helped make this a success!

Antoine and Veronica price held a fabulous fundraiser at their restaurant Antoine's Cafe in San Clemente. They served up great fun, food, music, and a raffle. They were able to raise $8500 for the IMSFF. Our thanks to Antoine and Veronica and all who joined for a wonderful evening!

Daughters of the American Revolutiion

Officers of the Past and Present Chapter Regents' Association of the California State Society Daughters of the American Revolution gathered with other members and their husbands at the Wounded Warrior Center on Camp Pendleton to present a check to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. Paula-Jo Cahoon, President of the Association and past Regent of the Linares Chapter, joined by Beverlee Stuart-Borok, Vice President and present Regent of Monserate Chapter; Linda Adams, Treasurer and present Regent of Bakersfield Chapter; Adele Lancaster, Recording Secretary and past Regent of the Santa Margarita Chapter, and Wanda Prosser, Advisor to the Board, Director of District XIV and past Regent of the Santa Margarita Chapter, presented a check for $1500.00 to Wendy Lethin, Director of Business Operations for the Fund. Each year, during CA DAR State Conference, the Association plans a breakfast during which money is raised for two or three targeted projects. This year the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund was the recipient of most of the money raised. Few families are prepared for the economics of when a Marine is severley wounded.
