The Columbia Group to Host Golf Tournament Fundraiser for Injured Marines & Sailors

Golf Tournament to Benefit Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society and the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund

Washington, DC (June 30, 2008) - According to the Department of Defense, over 31,500 soldiers have been wounded in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom since the beginning of the Global War on Terror (GWOT) in 2001. For those wounded veterans and their families, recovery is often a long and difficult period emotionally, physically, and financially.

“Many injured veterans require lengthy rehabilitation periods, and after their sacrifice neither they nor their families should struggle financially during their recovery” said Rod Buck, President of The Columbia Group. “Neither should we forget those who have lost loved ones to the GWOT.” That is why Mr. Buck says his company is revamping its annual golf tournament. “This year, we will bring an additional meaning to this corporate tradition by raising money for the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) and the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund (IMSFF)."

NMCRS and IMSFF are two well known, privately funded, non-profit organizations that support Marines and Sailors, veterans and their families. NMCRS offers financial and educational support in the form of interest free loans or grants. It also assists surviving spouses of Marines and Sailors killed on active duty helping them to understand what benefits they are entitled to and to navigate the claims processes. Similarly, IMSFF offers financial assistance and support programs to wounded Marines and Sailors during hospitalization, recovery and beyond, including assistance with therapeutic arts, specialized equipment, and home and vehicle modifications.
