Lake Anna, VA – April 18, 2007 – Over 1,000 people will compete in two days of triathlons set to take place this Saturday and Sunday April 21st and 22nd at Lake Anna State Park. The Kinetic Half Triathlon on Saturday and Kinetic Sprint Triathlon on Sunday bring together triathletes of all levels from elite to novice.
The events will also raise funds and awareness for autism research and the Lake Anna Rescue Squad, as well as serve as a stage for "Team Semper Fi" a sports program for wounded marines and sailors who refuse to allow their disabilities to get in the way of their participation in sports. "Team Semper Fi" will field eight members in the Kinetic Half Triathlon this Saturday.
"We are so proud to have this great program and many of its amazing members participating in our triathlons this weekend," said Greg Hawkins, Director of Set Up Events Virginia Triathlon Series. "It's an honor to know that our triathlons this weekend will provide an outlet of enjoyment and competition for these real American heroes."
"Team Semper Fi" was established by the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund as an extension of the assistance that the Fund provides to those who are injured in combat and training.
Since the Fund's inception in May 2004, it has provided more than $10 million in assistance to these heroes.
"Triathlons are an excellent opportunity for our members to take on a major challenge and competition involving swimming, biking and running despite any injuries they have faced defending our country," said John Szczepanowski Program Manager "Team Semper Fi"
"We're proud to be participating in a Set Up Events triathlon and appreciate all they are doing to support our efforts."
